Review · Frozen-block machine

Ufesa Gelatella Touch

Twelve programmes, a magnetic blade and a 4.3-inch screen with the recipe book inside. It is the dearest of its family, and that money buys other things.

The short answer

The best equipped, and also the dearest

It works like a Ninja: you make the mix, freeze it for 24 hours inside its pint, and the machine works it until it turns creamy. It does not chill: it shaves a block that is already frozen.

What looks good on paper

The kit. A 4.3-inch TFT touchscreen with an interactive recipe book that guides you step by step, twelve programmes — gelato, light ice cream, classic, sorbet, frozen yoghurt, Italian slush, classic slush and cold drinks — a MagnaBlade magnetic stainless steel blade, and 700 watts to finish a batch in five minutes.

Ease of use

The texture technologies. CreamDual Drive for creaminess and MicroAir Infusion to fold in chocolate or biscuit pieces mid-batch, the same set the standard Gelatella carries, where it does work.

What people complain about

Nobody has complained about anything yet, because nobody has written about it. What can be seen is that it splits 1.35 litres across three 450 ml pints: 50 ml less per batch than the standard Gelatella, which gives two of 700 ml.

The real doubt

The price. It sits above its whole family and already inside compressor-machine territory, where nothing has to be frozen the night before. And the standard Gelatella, with the same texture technologies, costs about a hundred euros less.

How well it works

Four things you notice
in use, not on the box

It works with tubs, not with a bowl

It is a frozen-block machine: the mix freezes inside its pint, 24 hours ahead, and the blade shaves it until it turns creamy. There is no compressor and it chills nothing by itself.

A scant litre and a half, split three ways

Three 450 ml pints: 1.35 litres in total, but each batch is 450 ml. It is the smallest pint of its family.

Three tubs, and here that matters

Every batch needs its own overnight freeze, so the number of pints sets the pace. With three you can have three flavours ready the same day; with one, each ice cream is 24 hours from the next.

Seven hundred watts and a 4.3-inch screen

The TFT touchscreen does not just show the programme: it carries the recipe book inside and guides you step by step. The MagnaBlade is magnetic, stainless steel and dishwasher safe.

What is known about it today

Nothing from real use: there is not a single published review. What we do know is what it shares with the standard Gelatella, which is almost everything but the screen and how the pints are split. And of that one, the three people who paid for it left two warnings about a dead front panel.

The verdict

Would we buy it? Not yet, and not at this price

The kit is the best of its family and the recipe book inside the screen is a genuinely good idea for a beginner. But nobody has used it in front of us yet, it costs a hundred euros more than the standard Gelatella — which carries the same texture technologies — and at this price you can already look at a compressor machine, which does not make you plan the freezer the night before. If it tempts you, wait until it has reviews.

Answers to your questions

Frequently asked questions

Does it really have no reviews?

None. We looked on amazon.es and in every other market where it is listed: zero written reviews and zero ratings. It is a product that has only just gone on sale.

How is it different from the standard Gelatella?

In three things: the 4.3-inch TFT screen with the recipe book inside, one more programme — twelve instead of eleven — and how the capacity is split, three 450 ml pints here against two of 700 ml there. The texture technologies and the power are the same.

What is MagnaBlade?

The magnetic stainless steel blade it carries: it holds by magnet instead of clipping in. Ufesa says it spreads the work better across every kind of mix, and it is dishwasher safe.

Does it chill the mix?

No. Like every frozen-block machine, it works a base you froze 24 hours earlier inside its own pint. Without a freezer there is no ice cream.

At that price, isn’t there a compressor machine?

Yes, and that is the comparison to make. A compressor machine chills on its own and does not force you to freeze anything the night before; in exchange it takes up a lot more room and does not make slushes. We have compared them in our guide to compressor ice cream makers.

Is it worth waiting?

We would wait. With zero reviews there is no way to know whether it repeats the front-panel fault reported by two of the three buyers of the standard Gelatella, and a hundred euros of difference buys a lot of pints.
