Sensio Home Icy Treats
A good litre and a half of bowl, a touchscreen and a window in the lid to watch the churning without opening it. Forty minutes per batch and then it keeps the cold on its own.
La de la ventana en la tapa
Sensio Home is a British kitchen appliance brand, and this is its compressor ice cream maker. What sets it apart from others its size is a small thing that turns out to be very useful: you can watch the ice cream come together without lifting the lid, which is exactly what you should not do.
Our score, after reading the reviews one by one.
Fine for its class. It makes ice cream, gelato, sorbet and frozen yoghurt with the same churning.
Touchscreen, timer and automatic shut-off if the mix seizes. You do not have to stand over it.
1,2 litros: cuatro raciones por tanda.
The window in the lid and the cold-holding function at the end.
Four things you notice
in use, not on the box
How the ice cream comes out
Good for a machine at this price. The bowl comes out whole, so the ice cream goes into the tub without a fight.
How long it really takes
Sensio quotes under 40 minutes per batch, and afterwards it holds the cold so you do not have to rush to serve.
Day to day
No pre-chilling. Bowl and motor unit separate for washing, and it comes with a recipe booklet.
Footprint
37 × 26 × 22 centimetres and 7.4 kilos. At 22 tall it fits under almost any shelf.
Mirar sin abrir
Opening the lid mid-batch is the commonest mistake: warm air gets in, the bowl loses cold and the ice cream takes longer and comes out more crystalline. With the window you can see when the mix stops running off the paddle, which is the sign that it is ready, without touching anything.

What it wins and what you have to accept
- Its own compressor: no need to pre-freeze the bowl the night before
- The cheapest in the compressor range
- LCD screen with timer
- Removable steel bowl
- The one that takes least worktop space
- 135 W and 1.2 litres: the lowest rung of its brand
- It falls short as soon as you want more quantity or more flavours
- It does not make yoghurt
- The recipe booklet doesn't give balanced formulas; the recipe is up to you

The Sensio Home Icy Treats against its rivals
Pro Breeze EasyFreezy
Less bowl, but it makes granita and milkshake, and it takes up half the width.
Severin EZ 7407
Same bowl, but it ferments yoghurt instead of just churning it.
Caso IceCreamer
Two litres, yoghurt and five functions, in another price league.
Springlane ELLI
The same bowl and the same idea, and this one is sold here.
Would we buy it? Yes, if buying in the United Kingdom is what you have to do
It gives 1.2 litres with a compressor, a display and automatic shut-off, which is everything you ask of a home ice cream maker, and the window in the lid prevents the commonest mistake. In Spain it is listed but with no buy button, so you have to go to the British Amazon. If you are buying here, the Springlane ELLI does the same with the same bowl.
Frequently asked questions
Do you have to pre-freeze anything?
No. It has a built-in compressor and starts cooling on its own.
¿Para qué sirve la ventana de la tapa?
To see when the ice cream is ready without opening it. Opening mid-batch lets warm air in and lengthens the process.
¿Hace yogur o yogur helado?
Frozen yoghurt: it churns a yoghurt that is already made. It does not ferment the milk.
Is it sold in Spain?
On the Spanish Amazon it is listed, but with no buy button. Where it actually sells is on the British one.
¿1,2 litros para cuántos dan?
Four servings per batch, and you can run another straight after with no pre-chilling.
Which would we buy instead?
The Springlane ELLI if you are buying in Spain, or the Severin EZ 7407 if you also want it to ferment yoghurt.
