Review · Frozen-block machine

Ninja CREAMi Deluxe

Ten programmes, 710 ml tubs and two flavours in the same tub. It does not chill: you freeze the base for 24 hours and it turns it into ice cream in a few minutes.

The short answer

The Ninja almost everyone buys

It is the middle one of the range and the one that makes sense for most people: tubs of 710 ml — against the small ones on the standard CREAMi —, ten programmes and the settings Top y Bottom, which allow two flavours in a single tub. It costs €40 more than the basic one and less than half the Scoop & Swirl.

The important thing to understand before buying it: it is not an ice cream maker. It has no compressor and chills nothing. You prepare the mix, freeze it for 24 hours in its tub, and the machine shaves that block until it turns creamy. It is a different craft, and it changes how you have to formulate.

The gold version (NC502EUSTGD) is this same machine in another finish and at the same price
Buyer reviews
4,5
out of 5

Our score, after reading the reviews one by one.

How the ice cream turns out
Genuinely creamy if the base is well formulated. Several buyers work out for themselves that you need goma xantana or dextrose so no crystals are left.
Ease of use
Touch panel, understandable without the manual. The hard part is getting used to preparing the base the day before.
The noise
Es el theme of its reviews. Some describe it as noise you notice through the whole house, and others say it is hard to hear each other speak in the kitchen.
Quality and price
Expensive for what it is — a motor and a blade — but those who use it daily say it pays for itself.
How well it works

Four things you notice
in use, not on the box

You have to think about the ice cream a day ahead

The 24 hours of freezing are not a tip: they are how it works. Those who buy spare tubs cite it as the best trick: “that way you do not have to wait 24 h for the next one”.

The texture depends on your recipe, not on the machine

The bad reviews and the good ones tell the same story from both sides. With light, protein-heavy bases crystals appear; with the recipe dialled in, several say they do not miss the gelato shop. The machine does not correct an unbalanced formula: it shreds it as it is.

Two flavours in one tub, genuinely

The Top and Bottom settings work the upper and lower halves separately. That is the real difference from the basic CREAMi, more than the three extra programmes.

The noise, and how long it lasts

It sounds loud, but only briefly: the cycle runs from two to five minutes. Those who complain about the noise almost always end up saying it is worth it.

And two flavours too

Top and Bottom: the function that sets it apart from the basic one

The Deluxe tub is worked in halves. You put one base at the bottom, another on top, and choose the matching setting: the machine shaves only that half. It works for two flavours, and also for leaving half the tub untouched for another day.

The balance

What it wins and what you have to accept

The best of it
  • 710 ml tubs: a real batch, not a single dessert
  • Two flavours in the same tub with Top and Bottom
  • A touch panel you understand without the manual
  • Parts are dishwasher safe
  • It allows protein-rich, low-sugar ice cream with a creamy result
What you have to accept
  • It does not chill: the base has to be frozen 24 hours beforehand
  • It is noisy, and that is the complaint repeated most
  • The recipe booklet it comes with is not in Spanish
  • Without a balanced formula crystals appear, especially in light bases
  • Footprint: 42 cm tall and 6.5 kg

The verdict

Would we buy it? Yes, knowing what it is

If you have understood that it is not an ice cream maker but a machine that works an already-frozen block, the Deluxe is the one that spreads its price best: big tubs, two flavours and ten programmes. And if you also formulate the base well — and our calculator sorts that out — the result stands comparison with a gelato shop.

Do not buy it expecting to pour in the liquid mix and take out ice cream half an hour later. For that you need a compressor.

Answers to your questions

Frequently asked questions

Does the mix need freezing first?

Yes, and it is not optional: 24 horas in the freezer inside its tub. The machine chills nothing, it shaves an already-frozen block. If you cut the time short, the texture comes out with crystals.

Can I make two batches in a row?

Only if you have another tub frozen. It is the spare purchase buyers themselves recommend most: with four tubs there is always one ready.

Why do I get crystals?

Because the base does not have enough solids or antifreeze. Several buyers reach the solution on their own: goma xantana or dextrose. That is exactly what our calculator works out, and it has a Ninja mode.

Is it very noisy?

Yes. It is the complaint repeated most in its reviews, in all four languages. The compensation is that the cycle lasts between two and five minutes.

Does the manual come in Spanish?

The panel is understandable without the manual, but several buyers complain that the printed recipe booklet comes in English, French and German.

And the gold version, is it a different machine?

No. The NC502EUSTGD is this same machine in a gold stone finish and at the same price. The colour changes, nothing more.
