UNOLD Doppio Nero
The two-bowl one: 1.2 litres each, to make two flavours at once without washing anything in between. It chills down to 35 degrees below zero, with 250 W of power and 19 kilos of machine.
Two flavours at once, without waiting for a second batch
It is the only one in the range with two independent bowls: you fill both, fit both paddles and two flavours come out in the same time. With 250 watts and a range reaching 35 below zero, it is also among the coldest of the domestic machines.
Our score. It still has few reviews on Amazon, so its own rating does not say much.
Very good: with 250 watts and −35 degrees as a minimum, the mix crystallises finely.
Two bowls also means twice as many parts to assemble and wash.
1.2 litres per bowl, 2.4 in total if you use both.
19 kilos and 41 centimetres wide: this one does not go away in a cupboard.
Four things you notice
in use, not on the box
How the ice cream comes out
Fine and well crystallised. The compressor is one of the powerful ones in the domestic range and it shows in the texture.
How long it really takes
UNOLD quotes about 30 minutes with the ingredients already cold. If the mix goes in lukewarm, add to that.
Day to day
Both bowls are steel and lift out whole. An advantage when washing up, and twice as many parts to fit back.
Footprint
40.9 centimetres wide and 19 kilos. It is the biggest and heaviest of all the ones we cover.
Two flavours at the same time
With one bowl, making two flavours means running a batch, emptying it, washing up and starting again. With two, they come out at the same time. It is the one thing this machine does that no other in the range does, and it is also why it weighs nineteen kilos.

The UNOLD Doppio Nero against its rivals
Springlane ELISA 2.0

Springlane ERIKA
The same watts with two and a half litres in one bowl, and yoghurt.
Severin EZ 7405

H. Koenig HF320
Two litres with a compressor and little else, for considerably less.
Would we buy it? Only for the two bowls
If what you want is to make two flavours at once, there are not many other options and this one does it well. If one is enough for you, for that money and that space there are two and a half litres in a single bowl, and with yoghurt on top. The worktop decides as much as the wallet.
Frequently asked questions
Can you use both bowls at once?
Yes, that is exactly what it is for: two flavours in the same time, each in its own bowl and with its own paddle.
How is it different from the Bianco?
In the colour. The 48830 Doppio Bianco is the same machine in white, and it already has its own page.
Does the UNOLD Doppio Nero make yoghurt?
No. Only ice cream, sorbet and slush.
How long does a batch take?
About 30 minutes if the mix goes in already cold from the fridge. If it goes in lukewarm, considerably more.
How much does it weigh?
Nineteen kilos. It is not a machine for taking out and putting away: it demands its own permanent spot.
What would we buy instead of the UNOLD Doppio Nero?
The Springlane ERIKA if what you want is capacity in one go, or the Severin EZ 7405 if you also want yoghurt.
