The short answer

The ELISA we would buy today

It is the same ELISA as always, but with a 220-watt compressor instead of 180 and two litres of ice cream in 45 minutes. It keeps what made it special: the yoghurt programme with its own heating element, which really ferments the milk instead of just churning ready-made yoghurt. For very little more than the previous one, there is no reason to buy the old model.

What changes against the previous one

Lo que aporta y las demás no

The 2016 ELISA gave 180 watts and took an hour to fill the two litres. This one goes up to 220 and down to 45 minutes. More watts means bringing the temperature down sooner, and sooner means finer crystals: it is the only variable on the machine that really touches the texture. The rest — two-litre bowl, steel, digital panel and the four programmes — is identical.

The balance

What it gains
and what you have to accept

The best of it
  • 220 watts of compressor, 40 more than the previous generation
  • Two litres of ice cream in 45 minutes, with nothing to pre-chill
  • Real yoghurt: it has its own heating element for fermenting
  • Stainless steel bowl and four programmes on a digital panel
  • Little more than the old ELISA, which is still on sale
What you have to accept
  • It has been on sale for a short time and has far less accumulated experience than the previous one
  • It is still a two-litre machine: for more, the ERIKA
  • The 45 minutes are with a full bowl; at half load it drops

Forty watts less with the same bowl, and it also ferments yoghurt.

The verdict

Would we buy it? Yes, and in preference to the old ELISA

It is the one we recommend from the whole Springlane range. It does the same as the ELISA always did — two litres, steel, real yoghurt with its own heating element — but with 220 watts instead of 180 and the two litres ready in 45 minutes instead of an hour. The price difference is small. If the old one comes out much cheaper in a one-off offer, take it; otherwise this is the right one.

Answers to your questions

Frequently asked questions

How does it differ from the previous ELISA?

In the compressor: 220 watts instead of 180, and the two litres ready in 45 minutes instead of an hour. The bowl, the steel, the panel and the four programmes are the same.

Is it worth paying the difference?

Yes. For very little more you buy more cooling power, which is the only thing on the machine that really affects the texture: the sooner the temperature drops, the finer the crystals.

Does it really make yoghurt?

Yes. It has its own heating element that keeps the milk at fermentation temperature for hours. That is not the same as models that only churn ready-made yoghurt.

Isn't two litres a lot for home?

The bowl holds 2 L, but it is never filled to the brim because the mix grows as it takes in air. Count on a good litre and a half per batch: at home that is plenty.

Does the recipe book come in Spanish?

No. The manual and the recipe booklet come in German and English, and the listing itself warns that Spanish is not guaranteed. It is not a real problem if you formulate yourself, but it is worth knowing beforehand.

Can I trust the recipe book it comes with?

Better not. The formulas in the booklet are not balanced. The machine is good: use our recipes or formulate your own with the calculator and it will run it without complaint.
