Heladera Springlane
ELISA
Ice cream in 45 or 60 minutes depending on how full it is, and yoghurt in about 7 hours, with nothing to pre-chill. It is the most complete of the ones we have tried.
The previous generation of the ELISA
Our score, after reading the reviews one by one.
Creamy and with no crystals, but it is the recipe and the resting that decide, not the machine.
The menu explains itself. The tedious part is prising the ice cream off the paddle.
A two-litre bowl, but the manufacturer says to fill it only to two thirds.
Four things you notice
in use, not on the box
How the ice cream comes out
Creamy and free of crystals, but the credit is shared. The people who speak best of it all say the same thing: pasteurise, cool and let the mix age for a few hours before churning. The machine executes; the texture comes from the formula.
How long it really takes
The manufacturer's 45 minutes are with the bowl half full. One buyer timed 45 minutes with 950 g of mix and 70 with 1,250 g, and an independent test reached an hour. The more you fill it, the longer it takes.
Day to day
The menu makes sense without opening the manual. The tedious part comes at the end: the ice cream clings to the paddle and is hard to get off, and both paddle and bowl have to be washed by hand.
The compressor noise
An independent test measured it at around 65 decibels on average, about as loud as a conversation. Most people find that acceptable, but some take a star off precisely for it.
It also makes yoghurt,
but here the recipe rules
The ELISA keeps the mix at fermentation temperature and lets you make yoghurt without another appliance on the worktop. But the result depends on the recipe, the culture and the time: with a well-tuned formula it turns out well; with others it can stay thin even after several hours.

What it gains
and what you have to accept
- Creamy ice cream from about 45 minutes, with nothing to pre-chill
- Includes its own yoghurt programme
- Self-cooling compressor: it does not depend on the freezer
- Removable metal bowl: handy for getting the ice cream out and washing it
- It comes well equipped: measuring cup, spatula, ice cream scoop and containers
- The recipe booklet does not carry balanced formulas, and it comes in German and English
- It is not quiet: an independent test measured around 65 decibels
- The yoghurt depends on the recipe and the culture, not just on the programme
- That yoghurt needs between five and nine hours of fermentation
- It weighs 12 kilos: it needs a permanent spot on the worktop

The same 180 watts and two litres, and it also ferments yoghurt.

Yes, with caveats
Frequently asked questions
Does the bowl have to be pre-chilled before starting?
No. The compressor chills on its own: switch it on and start. That is exactly what makes you end up using it, because it no longer depends on your having remembered the night before.
Can I run two batches back to back?
Yes, but give it a breather. The buyers who use it most recommend waiting a few minutes between batches: the compressor has just been working and appreciates not starting up cold again.
Is the yoghurt function actually useful?
Yes. The 22.8 W heating element keeps the mix at around 40 °C for about seven hours, the temperature at which the cultures work. It is a yoghurt maker inside the ice cream maker, not a brochure ornament.
Isn't two litres a lot for home?
The bowl holds 2 L, but it is never filled to the brim because the mix grows as it takes in air. Count on a good litre and a half per batch: at home that is plenty.
Does the recipe book come in Spanish?
No. The manual and the recipe booklet come in German and English, and the listing itself warns that Spanish is not guaranteed. It is not a real problem if you formulate yourself, but it is worth knowing beforehand.
Can I trust the recipe book it comes with?
Better not. The formulas in the booklet are not balanced. The machine is good: use our recipes or formulate your own with the calculator and it will run it without complaint.
