Cuisinart FreezeEase Pro
The big one of the FreezeEase range: a litre and a half, four programmes with fourteen settings of texture and time, and two paddles — one for ice cream and one for gelato. When it finishes it keeps the cold for an hour and a half.
The one that lets you change the texture without changing the recipe
Four programmes to start with and fourteen settings to fine-tune them: how much it churns, for how long and how firm it ends up. And two paddles, the ice cream one and the gelato one, which is where the air is decided. There is also a mix-only mode, for preparing the base without chilling it.
Our score. It is a recent model and still has few reviews on Amazon.
Fine, and considerably denser with the gelato paddle. The settings let you leave it softer or firmer.
Pick a programme and go, or dive into the settings if you want to be in charge.
1.5 litres: five or six servings per batch.
The fourteen settings, the two paddles and the 90 minutes of cold at the end.
Four things you notice
in use, not on the box
How the ice cream comes out
Creamy, and as dense or as light as you ask for. It is one of the few that let you change that from the machine.
How long it really takes
Cuisinart quotes 40 minutes. Afterwards it keeps the cold for an hour and a half, the longest we have seen.
Day to day
No pre-chilling. The lid is transparent and has a funnel, so you can watch the batch and drop pieces in without stopping anything.
Footprint
Cuisinart does not publish the dimensions or the weight of this model, so we do not give them.
The texture, set from the machine
On almost every ice cream maker the texture is decided in the formula and the machine just churns. Here you can move the churning time and firmness, and swap paddles depending on whether you want ice cream or gelato. That is what separates it from the small FreezeEase, which has only three programmes.

Keeping it cold
What it wins and what you have to accept
- Four programmes with adjustable texture and time settings
- Two BPA-free paddles: one for ice cream and one for gelato
- Keeps the ice cream cold for up to 90 minutes after finishing
- 1.5 L bowl: five or six servings per batch
- Clear lid and funnel: you can watch the batch and add pieces without stopping
- Cuisinart does not give dimensions or weight in its product sheet
- Still too few reviews to talk about reliability
- If you always use the same programme, you do not need the extra settings
Cuisinart FreezeEase Pro specifications
The Cuisinart FreezeEase Pro against its rivals
Cuisinart ICE100E
Same bowl and two paddles, without the fourteen settings.
Cuisinart FreezeEase
Three programmes and less bowl, considerably cheaper.
Magimix Gelato Expert
An Italian gelato programme and steel bowls, at another price.
Springlane ELISA 2.0
Half a litre more and real yoghurt, without texture settings.
Would we buy it? Yes, if you like fine-tuning the texture
It is the only one of those we have had that lets you change the churning from the machine, and with a recipe book like ours that gets used. If you are always going to set the same programme, the ICE100E does the same with two paddles and without paying for the settings.
Frequently asked questions
What are the fourteen settings?
Texture and time variations across the four programmes: leaving the ice cream softer or firmer without changing the recipe.
How does it differ from the standard FreezeEase?
In the bowl – 1.5 L against 950 ml –, in the two paddles and in the settings. The small one has three programmes and that is all.
Does the Cuisinart FreezeEase Pro need anything pre-chilled?
No. It has a built-in compressor.
What is the mix-only mode?
It churns without chilling, to prepare the base before maturing it in the fridge.
How big is it?
Cuisinart does not publish the dimensions or the weight of this model, so we prefer not to give them.
What would we buy instead of the Cuisinart FreezeEase Pro?
The ICE100E if you are not going to use the settings, or the Magimix Gelato Expert if gelato is your thing and you want steel.
